In its February issue, Kiplinger's named the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as its No. 1 institution exemplifying excellent academics while keeping costs to a minimum.

UCF, which moved up six spots from last year's list, costs $13,990 annually for state residents to attend full time.

The Orlando university, which maintains a Daytona Beach campus, had been named a top 20 national university for students graduating with the least amount of debt, according to a U.S. News & World Report ranking.
